About Us

The Center for Creative Energy is a unique partnership between the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts (SAMFA), the Upper Colorado River Authority (UCRA), and the San Angelo Independent School District (SAISD).

This project is supported in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), creating strong libraries and museums that connect people to information and ideas.

Our mission is to develop quality arts and science enrichment programs for the young citizens of San Angelo. We believe that a quality arts and science education is integral for a rich, meaningful life and thoughtful citizenship.

The Center for Creative Energy develops and administers three programs:

Art/Science Fusion:

Art/Science Fusion is a multiple visit  program designed for second graders. This program includes a tour of the current exhibitions on view at SAMFA, science activities at the URCA’s Water Education Center, and multiple studio visits. The curriculum is TEKS aligned and hands-on, providing students with the opportunity to explore valuable community resources while building knowledge and skills that will help them succeed. It’s fun too, which is never a bad thing!

Camp Odyssey:

Camp Odyssey is a one week summer intensive program for 3rd through 7th grade students. The program focuses on local environmental issues and encourages students to participate in team work, explore their community in new ways, and brainstorm new solutions to solve local problems. During Camp Odyssey students continue building the skills developed in the Texas Research Institute for Young Scholars (TRYIS).

Aqua Squad:

Aqua Squad is a summer research program for 7th and 8th grade students. The program lasts for two weeks. During the first week, the students will travel to a major cultural institution to visit with museum professionals.  During the next three years Aqua Squad teams will visit the Shedd Aquarium, the San Diego Zoo, and the Franklin Institute. During the second week, the students research a particular interest related to environmental issues and develop an exhibition based on their research. The final exhibition is installed in the Water Education Center.
